Directional Sound Sensor With Consistent Directivity and Sensitivity in the Audible Range

Inspired by the human cochlea, we propose a directional sound sensor using resonator array to overcome limitations of existing microphones. The proposed consists multiple cantilevers that respond different resonance frequencies and separately acquire signals then combine them for sensing. directionality is bipolar (figure-of-8) because signal proportional input sound’s pressure gradient generated. We adopt multimode cover wide frequency range 100-8,000 Hz few resonators. A wide-bandwidth (low-quality-factor) trenched cantilever used obtain flat response. Bidirectional sensors are tapered achieve acoustic beamforming simple processing. characteristics can be easily changed according weighted sum acquired from pair sensors. demonstrate ambient noise effectively suppressed through desired sensor.
