Directional Hydraulic Characteristics of Reservoir Rocks for CO2 Geological Storage in the Pohang Basin, Southeast Korea

This study conducted core sampling of an offshore borehole for geological reservoir characterization a potential CO2 storage site in southeast Korea. From this, two promising formations at ~739 and ~779 m were identified as prospective reservoirs. Injection efficiency migration evaluated based on directional measurements permeabilities from plugs. The transport properties determined using both portable probe permeameter pressure cell capable applying different situ confining pressures. Both steady state unsteady used to determine permeability—the method selected according the expected permeability range specific sample. was rapid screening acquired (PPP). Anticipated performance prototypical injection flow modeling plume pathway including through overlying measured hydraulic properties. These analyses revealed that depth 739 double 779 m. correlations among distributions can be utilized assessment capacity, injectivity, leakage risk.
