Direct-retrograde orbit flips at planetary close encounters

چکیده

Aims . We want to find the conditions under which planetary close encounters transform orbits of small Solar System bodies from direct retrograde, and vice versa. Methods derive analytical constraints on orbital elements body that allow direct-retrograde transitions at encounters. check validity with numerical integrations in restricted, circular, three-dimensional three-body problem. Results For bound orbits, inclination flips are possible only for values Tisserand parameter, computed respect planet actually encountered, within certain limits. give an expression probability per revolution this transition, as function parameters. show how identify, among known asteroids comets those can flip retrograde motion due encounter outer planet. Conclusions Inclination be quantitatively characterized theory

Single Close Encounters Do Not Make Eccentric Planetary Orbits

The recent discovery of a planet in an orbit with eccentricity e = 0.63± 0.08 around the Solar-type star 16 Cyg B, together with earlier discoveries of other planets in orbits of significant eccentricity, raises the question of the origin of these orbits, so unlike the nearly circular orbits of our Solar system. In this paper I consider close encounters between two planets, each initially in a ...

Stellar orbit evolution in close circumstellar disc encounters

The formation and early evolution of circumstellar discs often occurs within dense, newborn stellar clusters. For the first time, we apply the moving-mesh code AREPO, to circumstellar discs in 3D, focusing on disc–disc interactions that result from stellar flybys. Although a small fraction of stars are expected to undergo close approaches, the outcomes of the most violent encounters might leave...

Close encounters.

IN THE November issue of Nursing Management, airline pilot Chris Mann asked: 'Safety Culture? What safety culture?' ( Mann 2004 ). His paper summarises the training undertaken in the aviation industry particularly in relation to human factors, in recognition of their part in aviation safety. He posed the following questions of the NHS.

Resonant Homoclinic Bifurcations with Orbit Flips and Inclination Flips

Homoclinic bifurcation with one orbit flip, two inclination flips and resonance in the tangent directions of homoclinic orbit is considered. By studying the associated successor functions constructed from a local active coordinate system, we prove the existence of double 1-periodic orbit, 1-homoclinic orbit, and also some coexistence conditions of 1-periodic orbit and 1-homoclinic orbit.

Close encounters of black holes

This is an introduction into the problem of how to set up black hole initialdata for the matter-free field equations of General Relativity. The approach is semi-pedagogical and addresses a more general audience of astrophysicists and students with no specialized training in General Relativity beyond that of an introductory lecture.1
