Energy-Driven Pattern Formation in Planar Dipole-Dipole Systems
A variety of two-dimensional fluid systems, known as dipole-mediated systems, exhibit a dipole-dipole interaction between their fluid constituents. The competition of this repulsive dipolar force with the cohesive fluid forces cause these systems to form intricate and patterned structures in their boundaries. In this thesis, we show that the microscopic details of any such system are irrelevant...
متن کاملNoncommutative Dipole Field Theories
Assigning an intrinsic constant dipole moment to any field, we present a new kind of associative star product, the dipole star product, which was first introduced in [hepth/0008030]. We develop the mathematics necessary to study the corresponding noncommutative dipole field theories. These theories are sensible non-local field theories with no IR/UV mixing. In addition we discuss that the Loren...
متن کاملDirac Electron in the Electric Dipole Field
Dirac equation for the finite dipole potential is solved by the method of the join of the asymptotics. The formulas for the near continuum state energy term of a relativistic electron-dipole system are obtained analytically. Two cases are considered: Z < 137 and Z > 137 Dirac equation for Z > 137 is solved by usual method of cut-off potential at small distances.
متن کاملKK-Masses in Dipole Deformed Field Theories
We reconsider aspects of non-commutative dipole deformations of field theories. Among our findings there are hints to new phases with spontaneous breaking of translation invariance (stripe phases), similar to what happens in Moyal-deformed field theories. Furthermore, using zeta-function regularization, we calculate quantum corrections to KK-state masses. The corrections coming from non-planar ...
متن کاملMagnetic Field Fluctuations in Sc Dipole Magnet
Magnetic field fluctuations at the betatron frequency can lead to emittance growth in circular accelerators. Tolerances are extremely tight for large hadron colliders like LHC and VLHC[1]. We performed experimental studies of the fluctuations in a stand-alone superconducting Tevatron magnet. Here we give a general description of the experimental set-up, present main results and discuss conseque...
