Suppressors of lysine codons may be misacylated lysine tRNAs.
We describe a novel class of missense suppressors that read the codons for lysine at two positions (211 and 234) in the trpA polypeptide of Escherichia coli. The suppressor mutations are highly linked to lysT, a gene for lysine tRNA. The results suggest that the suppressors are misacylated lysine tRNAs that carry glycine or alanine. The mutant codons are apparently suppressed better at position...
متن کاملMuramyl dipeptide
T robust expression of microbial pattern recognition receptors such as TLR4 and Nod2 in intestinal stem cells reflects an active communication dynamic between the host and the gut microbiota. A new study reveals that muramyl dipeptide, the bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan motif, activates Nod2 within crypt base columnar Lgr5positive stem cells and promotes their survival. Apart from the immedi...
متن کاملDipeptide absorption in man.
A quantitative perfusion method has been used to study intestinal absorption of two dipeptides-glycyl-glycine and glycyl-l-alanine-in normal subjects. In each case, the constituent amino acids were absorbed faster when presented as dipeptides than as free amino acids, suggesting intact dipeptide transport. During absorption constituent amino acids were measured within the lumen and it is sugges...
متن کاملTranspeptidation reactions of porcine pepsin. Formation of tetrapeptides from dipeptide substrates.
Pepsin-catalyzed transpeptidation was studied by high resolution 75 MHz 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Enrichment with 13C at the carbonyl carbons of the substrates Leu-Tyr-NH2 and Leu-Leu-NH2 facilitated detection and identification of the transpeptidation and hydrolysis products of enzymic action. Porcine pepsin was found in each case to synthesize and release the tetrapeptide L...
متن کاملAnti-Aggregating Effect of the Naturally Occurring Dipeptide Carnosine on Aβ1-42 Fibril Formation
Carnosine is an endogenous dipeptide abundant in the central nervous system, where by acting as intracellular pH buffering molecule, Zn/Cu ion chelator, antioxidant and anti-crosslinking agent, it exerts a well-recognized multi-protective homeostatic function for neuronal and non-neuronal cells. Carnosine seems to counteract proteotoxicity and protein accumulation in neurodegenerative condition...
