Dimples, jets and self-similarity in nonlinear capillary waves

چکیده
Numerical studies of dimple and jet formation from a collapsing cavity often model the initial shape as truncated sphere, mimicking bursting bubble. In this study, we present minimal containing only nonlinear inertial capillary forces, which produces dimples jets wave trough. The trough in our simulation develops smooth perturbation, chosen to be an eigenmode linearised ${O}(\epsilon )$ problem ( $\epsilon$ is non-dimensional amplitude). We explain physical mechanism demonstrate that, for moderate , sharp seen simulations well captured by weakly ^3)$ theory developed here. For $\epsilon \gg 1$ regime strongly nonlinear, spreading surface energy into many modes, precursor now sharply rising jet. Here, reveal novel localised window (in space time) where evolves self-similarly following inviscid (Keller & Miksis, SIAM J. Appl. Our first-principles study demonstrates at sufficiently small scales, can form radial inward focusing waves, may described relatively simple employing (nonlinear) effects. Viscosity gravity can, however, significantly influence process, either intensifying singularity or weakening it (Walls et al. Phys. Rev. Nonlinear waves in capillary electrophoresis.
Electrophoretic separation of a mixture of chemical species is a fundamental technique of great usefulness in biology, health care, and forensics. In capillary electrophoresis, the sample migrates in a microcapillary in the presence of a background electrolyte. When the ionic concentration of the sample is sufficiently high, the signal is known to exhibit features reminiscent of nonlinear waves...
متن کاملStrongly nonlinear waves in capillary electrophoresis.
In capillary electrophoresis, sample ions migrate along a microcapillary filled with a background electrolyte under the influence of an applied electric field. If the sample concentration is sufficiently high, the electrical conductivity in the sample zone could differ significantly from the background. Under such conditions, the local migration velocity of sample ions becomes concentration-dep...

متن کاملNonlinear gravity–capillary waves with forcing and dissipation
We present a study of nonlinear gravity–capillary waves with surface forcing and viscous dissipation. Based on a viscous boundary layer approximation near the water surface, the theory permits the efficient calculation of steady gravity–capillary waves with parasitic capillary ripples. To balance the viscous dissipation and thus achieve steady solutions, wind forcing is applied by adding a surf...
متن کاملCapillary waves in the subcritical nonlinear Schrödinger equation
In a recent article, Novoa, Michinel, and Tomasini derived a Young-Laplace equation to describe a certain class of stationary solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with cubic and quintic nonlinearities [1]. Light beams, therefore, can sometimes take on the attribute of a liquid when propagating in nonlinear media. This occasional liquidlike nature of light was noted by several a...
