DigitSeis: software to extract time series from analogue seismograms

چکیده

Abstract A vast amount of analogue seismograms recorded between the end nineteenth century and late twentieth are often inaccessible for seismological research since they not available as digital time series. This manuscript describes freely software, DigitSeis, that takes a image an seismic record returns waveforms either function their x-y position on or time–amplitude information. The overall structure approach software provided along with how have evolved over different versions. effectiveness is demonstrated three examples. first example long-period east–west seismogram at Harvard Seismographic Observatory photographic paper in May 1938, which contains signals associated magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred off coast Northern Ibaraki, Japan. second analysis 35-mm microfilm copy short-period vertical Tucson, Arizona, July 16, 1945, shows blast from nuclear bomb detonation. final uses 70 mm microfiche north–south College, Alaska December 1966, pair earthquakes nearly identical waveforms. is, by no means, perfect, discussion its limitations such compatibility pen- Develocorder-type included, well comments about challenges incorporating machine learning into digitization process.

Dynamics from a time series: can we extract the phase resetting curve from a time series?

Recordings of the membrane potential from a bursting neuron were used to reconstruct the phase curve for that neuron for a limited set of perturbations. These perturbations were inhibitory synaptic conductance pulses able to shift the membrane potential below the most hyperpolarized level attained in the free running mode. The extraction of the phase resetting curve from such a one-dimensional ...

From time series to superstatistics.

Complex nonequilibrium systems are often effectively described by a "statistics of a statistics", in short, a "superstatistics". We describe how to proceed from a given experimental time series to a superstatistical description. We argue that many experimental data fall into three different universality classes: Chi2 superstatistics (Tsallis statistics), Chi2 inverse superstatistics, and log-no...

introduction to menyanthes software for hydrogeologic time series analysis with physical insight

the program menyanthes combines a variety of functions for managing, editing, visualizing, analyzing, and modeling hydrogeologic time series. the primary aim of the software is the integration of data-driven and physics-based methods for modeling time series of groundwater heads. within menyanthes, time series can be modeled using both the arma and pirfict methods. the pirfict method is a new m...

Pervasive white and colored noise removing from magnetotelluric time series

Magnetotellurics is an exploration method which is based on measurement of natural electric and magnetic fields of the Earth and is increasingly used in geological applications, petroleum industry, geothermal sources detection and crust and lithosphere studies. In this work, discrete wavelet transform of magnetotelluric signals was performed. Discrete wavelet transform decomposes signals into c...

Using Wavelets and Splines to Forecast Non-Stationary Time Series

This paper deals with a short term forecasting non-stationary time series using wavelets and splines. Wavelets can decompose the series as the sum of two low and high frequency components. Aminghafari and Poggi (2007) proposed to predict high frequency component by wavelets and extrapolate low frequency component by local polynomial fitting. We propose to forecast non-stationary process u...
