Diffractive electroproduction of ρ meson excitations
We use perturbative QCD and parton-hadron duality to estimate the cross sections for the diffractive electroproduction of ρ ′ (1 −) and ρ(3 −) resonances which occur in the 1.3– 1.8 GeV mass interval. We present the cross sections and the ratios σ L /σ T as a function of Q 2. We compare the predictions with those for the diffractive electroproduction of ρ mesons. We show how such diffractive el...
متن کاملDiffractive Electroproduction *
In the following, the term ‘diffractive electroproduction’ or ‘diffractive deep inelastic scattering (DIS)’ is used to characterize those processes in small-x DIS where, in spite of the high virtuality of the exchanged photon, the proton target remains intact or almost intact. Thus, the term is used synonymously with the expression ‘rapidity gap events in DIS’. Historically, the term diffractio...
متن کاملGluon Radiation in Diffractive Electroproduction
Order αs-corrections to the diffractive structure functions F D L and F D 2 at large Q 2 and small x are evaluated in the semiclassical approach, where the initial proton is treated as a classical colour field. The diffractive final state contains a fast gluon in addition to a quark-antiquark pair. Two of these partons may have large transverse momentum. Our calculations lead to an intuitive pi...
متن کاملAsymmetric Gluon Distributions and Hard Diffractive Electroproduction
Due to the momentum transfer r ≡ p − p′ from the initial proton to the final, the “asymmetric” matrix element 〈p′|G . . . G|p〉 that appears in the pQCD description of hard diffractive electroproduction does not coincide with that defining the gluon distribution function fg(x). I outline a pQCD formalism based on a concept of a double distribution Fg(x, y), which specifies the fractions xp, yr, ...
متن کاملHigh-p⊥ Jets in Diffractive Electroproduction
The diffractive production of high-p⊥ jets in deep-inelastic scattering is studied in the semiclassical approach. The p⊥-spectra of qq̄ and qq̄g diffractive final states are found to be qualitatively different. For qq̄ final states, which are produced by ‘hard’ colour-singlet exchange, the p⊥-spectrum is much softer than for qq̄g final states, where the colour neutralization is ‘soft’. Furthermore,...
