Different pollination approaches to compare the seed set of diploid and tetraploid red clover Trifolium pratense L.

چکیده
In red clover seed production, low yield is limiting the commercial exploitation of tetraploid clover. To explore if pollination factor for in clover, we investigated pollinator behaviour and plant reproductive success diploid (2x) cultivar ‘Rajah' (4x) ‘Amos' using honey bee hand approaches. We measured set at flower head level with increasing visitation rate bees (one bee, two open pollination) pollen diversity donors) pollination. found no difference (visitation rate) between Surprisingly, was significantly lower than that one ‘Rajah'. suggest prefer to visit already tripped florets or fewer due scent marks left by previous bees. pollination, number per (on average 11) half 20). There were differences stigma receptivity whereas viability after peak reached (six days onset flowering). fertility problems such as may be reason This conclusion should verified investigating other traits during ovary, embryo development a broader range cultivars.

De novo and reference transcriptome assembly of transcripts expressed during flowering provide insight into seed setting in tetraploid red clover
Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is one of the most important legume forage species in temperate livestock agriculture. Tetraploid red clover cultivars are generally producing less seed than diploid cultivars. Improving the seed setting potential of tetraploid cultivars is necessary to utilize the high forage quality and environmentally sustainable nitrogen fixation ability of red clover. In ...

Trifolium spp. are native plants in Iran exhibiting good ground cover po-tential. Salinity is a major environmental stress and today, 20% of the world cultivated areas and nearly half of all irrigated lands are affected by salinity. The main aim of this research was to study morphological and physiological adaptations of these native species under different salinity levels for urban landscape u...
