چکیده

The objective of this study was to examine the effect isonitrogenous substitution solvent-extracted soybean meal (SBM) with canola (CM) on enteric CH4 production, ruminal fermentation characteristics (including protozoa), digestion (in situ and apparent total-tract digestibility), N excretion, milk production dairy cows. For purpose, 16 lactating Holstein cows, which 12 were ruminally cannulated, used in a replicated 4 × Latin square (35-d periods; 14-d adaptation). cows averaged (mean ± SD) 116 23 d milk, 692 60 kg body weight, 47.5 4.9 kg/d production. experimental treatments control diet (no CM; 0%CM) diets supplemented [dry matter (DM) basis] 7.9% CM (8%CM), 15.8% (16%CM), or 23.7% (24%CM) DM basis. forage:concentrate ratio 52:48 (DM basis) similar among diets. Canola included at expense SBM hulls, whereas percentages other ingredients same. Intake increased linearly, digestibility DM, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, gross energy (GE) declined linearly as inclusion increased. Total volatile fatty acids concentration butyrate molar proportion decreased propionate that acetate unaffected by diet. Ruminal ammonia not affected Energy-corrected (ECM) yield (up 2.2 kg/d) increasing percentage diet, efficiency 1.63 ECM/kg intake Daily (489, 475, 463, 461 g/d for 0%CM, 8%CM, 16%CM 24%CM diets, respectively). As consequence, emission intensity (g CH4/kg ECM) also up 10% amount Methane when expressed relative GE (5.7, 5.2, 5.1, 4.9% Quantity manure excretion replacing however, shifted from urine feces dietary increased, suggesting reduced potential volatilization. Results show protein source cow emissions (g/d, % intake, adjusted production) indicates can successfully, partially fully, replace positive effects animal productivity environment (i.e., less urinary excreted). We conclude compared SBM, play key role reducing environmental footprint

Replacing dietary soybean meal with canola meal improves production and efficiency of lactating dairy cows.

Previous research suggested that crude protein (CP) from canola meal (CM) was used more efficiently than CP from solvent soybean meal (SBM) by lactating dairy cows. We tested whether dietary CP content influenced relative effectiveness of equal supplemental CP from either CM or SBM. Fifty lactating Holstein cows were blocked by parity and days in milk into 10 squares (2 squares with ruminal can...

Effects of soybean meal or canola meal on milk production and methane emissions in lactating dairy cows fed grass silage-based diets.

This study evaluated the effects of soybean meal (SBM) and heat-moisture-treated canola meal (TCM) on milk production and methane emissions in dairy cows fed grass silage-based diets. Twenty-eight Swedish Red cows were used in a cyclic change-over experiment with 4 periods of 21 d and with treatments in 2 × 4 factorial arrangement (however, the control diet without supplementary protein was not...

Effects of replacing soybean meal with canola meal and decreasing ‎crude ‎protein ‎on milk production and nutrient utilization of dairy cows in early lactation

This study investigated the effects of replacing soybean meal (SM) with canola meal (CM) and decreasing crude protein (‎CP) levels in CM based diets on performance of dairy cows when different sources of processed grains and CM were used. Canola meal was untreated or roasted at 130°C for 30 minutes and grains sources (corn and barley) were either ground or steamed-flaked. Eight Holstein cows (‎...

Effects of grass silage and soybean meal supplementation on milk production and milk fatty acid profiles of grazing dairy cows.

The effects of supplementation with grass silage and replacement of some corn in the concentrate with soybean meal (SBM) on milk production, and milk fatty acid (FA) profiles were evaluated in a replicated 4 x 4 Latin square study using 16 dairy cows grazing pasture composed of ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, and white clover. Each experimental period lasted for 3 wk. The 4 dietary treatments wer...
