Dielectric barrier discharge based defect engineering method to assist flash sintering

Oxygen vacancy plays an important role in the flash sintering (FS) process. In defect engineering, methods to create oxygen include doping, heating, and etching, all of them often have complex process or equipment. this study we used dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) as a new engineering technology increase concentration green billet with different ceramics (ZnO, TiO2 3 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia (3YSZ)). With 10 kHz AC power supply, low-temperature plasma was generated specimen could be treated atmosphere. The effect DBD treatment influenced by atmosphere, time, voltage amplitude supply. After treatment, ZnO samples increased significantly, resistance test showed that conductivity 2–3 orders magnitude.  Moreover, onset electric field FS decreased from 5.17 kV/cm 0.86 at room temperature, while whole max Power dissipation decrease 563.17 W 27.94 W. billets for 3YSZ also changed DBD, then modified.
