Dicarbonyl anthracenes and phenanthrenes as singlet fission chromophores

چکیده
Singlet fission is a highly desired process in photovoltaic devices as it can significantly enhance photoelectric conversion efficiency. Exploitation of this photovoltaics hindered by the lack appropriate chromophores. We used mixed-reference spin-flip time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) to investigate five dicarbonyl anthracenes and phenanthrenes, with purpose design singlet Two molecules were found be promising candidates. For all molecules, oxygen lone pair orbitals involved excited states that are relevant fission.

Multiple exciton generation in quantum dots versus singlet fission in molecular chromophores for solar photon conversion.
Both multiple exciton generation (MEG) in semiconductor nanocrystals and singlet fission (SF) in molecular chromophores have the potential to greatly increase the power conversion efficiency of solar cells for the production of solar electricity (photovoltaics) and solar fuels (artificial photosynthesis) when used in solar photoconverters. MEG creates two or more excitons per absorbed photon, a...

Singlet fission (SF) has the potential to supersede the traditional solar energy conversion scheme by means of boosting the photon-to-current conversion efficiencies beyond the 30% Shockley-Queisser limit. Here, we show unambiguous and compelling evidence for unprecedented intramolecular SF within regioisomeric pentacene dimers in room-temperature solutions, with observed triplet quantum yields...

Singlet fission, the splitting of one singlet into two triplets, can potentially increase the efficiency of optoelectronic devices beyond conventional limits. Among the singlet fission molecules discovered to date, two mechanisms have emerged: intraor intermolecular singlet fission. Here we show a combined intrato intermolecular singlet fission mechanism in the model system of diphenyl-dicyano-...
متن کاملFemtosecond Laser Spectroscopy and Singlet Fission
Singlet exciton fission or singlet fission (SF) is a process in which a singlet excited molecule, usually in a densely packed organic solid or in a polymer, shares its energy with a neighboring molecule in its electronic ground state, both molecules forming a pair of triplet states in a spin allowed process. SF was first proposed in 1965 to explain the delayed fluorescence in anthracene crystal...
متن کاملIntra- and Intermolecular Singlet Fission in Covalently Linked Dimers
Electronic factors controlling singlet fission (SF) rates are investigated in four-chromophore model systems comprising two covalently linked dimers of tetracene. By using adiabatic framework and wave function analysis tools, we show that the lowest singlet multiexciton states are localized on the individual molecules. The intermolecular ME states, in which the triplet excitons reside on separa...
