Diameter growth of European beech on carbonate: a regional versus forest type perspective

چکیده

Abstract We studied the impacts of site, stand and tree variables on diameter growth beech trees ( Fagus sylvatica L.) carbonate bedrock examined to what extent regional model can be used at forest type level. Based 12,193 permanent sampling plots (500 m 2 each) with 94,770 trees, we first developed a linear mixed-effect periodic increment level (Dinaric region, Slovenia, 1.7 thousand km ). Subsequently, parametrized for five types within region (submontane, thermophilous, montane, upper montane subalpine) homogeneity-of-slopes test whether covariates have different effects in types. The suggested positive impact (nonlinear), diversity, mean diurnal temperature range annual negative basal area, proportion beech, inclination, rockiness amount precipitation. Stand area contributed > 50% total explained variability, followed by (44%), topographic (3%) climatic (< 2%). was well transferable types; only variable significantly effect diameter. However, models differed respect slopes significance several predictors, wherein coefficients some predictors were even opposite sign. Not all from included if predictor selection parameterization performed independently each type. Our study suggests that characteristics detected only, while analyses reveal significant differences response tree, environmental variables.

Regional and national experiences on bridging: a Western European perspective

This presentation reflects on experience across the pre-2004 European Economic Area in making use of formal mechanisms to help collate and consider different sources of information in health and social care policy, with a particular focus on the areas of ageing and disability. The structures, capacity and resource requirements of selected mechanisms will be illustrated. The presentation then as...

Fallow deer impacts on Wakatipu beech forest

This study uses data from forty-nine 20 m × 20 m permanent plots measured in 1976, 1982, 1989 and 1997-2002 in Wakatipu Forest, western Otago. We relate changes in red (Nothofagus fusca), silver (Nothofagus menziesii) and mountain beech (Nothofagus solandri var. cliffortioides) forest vegetation to the presence of fallow deer (Dama dama). Vegetation composition is likely to have been altered pr...

Quantitative and qualitative effects of a severe ice storm on an old-growth beech–maple forest

Comparing permanent plots censused in 1997 and again in 2005, we quantified the impact of a severe ice storm on forest composition and dynamics in an old-growth beech–maple forest in eastern Canada. Acer saccharum Marsh. and Fagus grandifolia Ehrh. accounted for 78% of stand basal area immediately before the January 1998 ice storm. By 2005, eight growing seasons after the ice storm, stand basal...

Studies on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L

Colour parameters of European beech were measured using CIELab system. 103 logs from 87 trees in 9 sites were cut into boards to study the variations of wood colour parameters. Both site and tree effect on colour were observed. Patterns of red heartwood occurrence were defined. When excepting red heartwood there was still a highly significant effect of site and tree; differences remained after ...
