چکیده

Abstract The present study deals with diagenesis and dolomitization modeling of Middle Miocene – Quaternary sedimentary sequence outcropped at Ras Banas Peninsula, Egyptian Red Sea Coast. This is comprising successively overlapped clastics, carbonates, evaporites attaining 254 m total thickness resting on the Pre-Cambrian basement rocks in Peninsula. Diagenetic history were carefully investigated using several techniques including petrographic microscope, XRD, SEM, cathodoluminescence, atomic absorption, isotopes oxygen carbon. conspicuous phenomena pervasive directly pre- post evaporite limestone components. These dolomites are mostly nonstochiometric, poorly to moderately ordered crystals. Based all results obtained from this study, processes Peninsula result complex geologic setting, paleo-climate changes, tectonic activity, sea-level fluctuations. proposed graphic model describes mechanism which refers mixed meteoric-hypersaline water environments.

Microbially induced sedimentary structures in evaporite–siliciclastic sediments of Ras Gemsa sabkha, Red Sea Coast, Egypt

The coastal sabkha in Ras Gemsa, Red Sea coast with its colonizing microbial mats and biofilms was investigated. The sabkha sediments consist mainly of terrigenous siliciclastic material accompanied by the development of evaporites. Halite serves as a good conduit for light and reduces the effect of intensive harmful solar radiation, which allows microbial mats to survive and flourish. The micr...

The effects of diagenesis and dolomitization on Ca and Mg isotopes in marine platform carbonates: Implications for the geochemical cycles of Ca and Mg

The Ca, Mg, O, and C isotopic and trace elemental compositions of marine limestones and dolostones from ODP Site 1196A, which range in depth ( 58 to 627 mbsf) and in depositional age ( 5 and 23 Ma), are presented. The objectives of the study are to explore the potential for non-traditional isotope systems to fingerprint diagenesis, to quantify the extent to which geochemical proxies are altered...

Coralline red algae from the Lower Pliocene Shagra Formation of Wadi Wizer, Red Sea coast, Egypt: Biofacies analysis, systematics and palaeoenvironmental implications

Coralline red algae are highly abunadant and well diversified in the well exposed carbonate deposits of the Lower Pliocene Shagra Formation at Wadi Wizer, Red Sea coast, Egypt. Lithostratigraphically, the Shagra Formation unconformably overlies the Late Miocene Marsa Alam Formation and underlies the Quaternary deposits. This carbonate facies is dominated by different assemblage of coralline red...

Spatial and temporal distribution of larvae of coral reef fishes in northern Red Sea, Egypt

The larval community of coral reef fishes in the Red Sea was studied in coastal and offshore sites to determine the effects of the exposure to waves and currents and the distance from the shore in structuring the larval fish community. Plankton sampling from inshore and offshore sites and the exposed and sheltered sides of the reefs resulted in the collection of 2048 larvae representing 49 diff...
