چکیده

The global automotive industry is undergoing a significant transition as battery electric vehicles enter the market and diesel sales decline. It widely recognized that internal combustion engines (ICE) will be needed for transport years to come; however, demands on ICE fuel efficiency, emissions, cost, performance are extremely challenging. Gasoline compression ignition (GCI) one approach achieving demanding efficiency emissions targets. A key technology enabler GCI partially-premixed, (PPCI) combustion, which involves two high-pressure, late injections during stroke. Both NOx smoke greatly reduced relative diesel, this reduces aftertreatment (AT) requirements significantly. For robust low-load cold operation, two-step valvetrain system used exhaust rebreathing (RB). Exhaust reinduction of hot gases into cylinder second lift event intake stroke help promote autoignition. amount controlled by backpressure, created vanes variable nozzle turbine (VNT) turbocharger. Because higher cycle temperatures rebreathing, HC CO may significantly reduced, while robustness stability also improve. Importantly, increases in order maintain active catalysis AT ultra-low tailpipe emissions. To achieve these benefits, it important optimize rebreathe valve profile develop an RB ON→OFF (mode switch) strategy easy implement control, without engine torque fluctuation. Numerical Prediction of NOX in the Exhaust of a Compression Ignition Engine

For numerical prediction of the NOX in the exhaust of a compression ignition engine a model was developed by considering the parameter equivalence ratio. This model was validated by comparing the predicted results of NOX with experimental ones. The ultimate aim of the work was to access the applicability, robustness and performance of the improved NOX model against other NOX models. Keywords—Bi...

Analysis of Recoverable Exhaust Energy from a Light-Duty Gasoline Engine

While EER (Exhaust Energy Recovery) has been widely pursued for improving the total efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions of internal combustion engines, the maximum regenerated power from the exhaust energy has been proposed and calculated in terms of endoreversible cycle. In this paper, based on the experimental data of an EER system installed on a light duty gasoline engine, the exhaust ener...

Low-Temperature Combustion of High Octane Fuels in a Gasoline Compression Ignition Engine

Gasoline compression ignition (GCI) has been shown as one of the advanced combustion concepts that could potentially provide a pathway to achieve cleaner and more efficient combustion engines. Fuel and air in GCI are not fully premixed compared to homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI), which is a completely kinetic-controlled combustion system. Therefore, the combustion phasing can be ...

Effect of Injection Characteristics on Emissions and Combustion of a Gasoline Fuelled Partially-premixed Compression Ignition Engine

Conventional compression ignition (CI) engines are known for their high thermal efficiency compared to spark ignited (SI) engines. Gasoline because of its higher ignition delay has much lower soot emission in comparison with diesel fuel. Using double injection strategy reduces the maximum heat release rate that leads to NOx emission reduction. In this paper, a numerical study of a gasoline fuel...

Experimental Investigation of Piston Heat Transfer in a Light Duty Engine Under Conventional Diesel, Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition, and Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition Combustion Regimes

An experimental study has been conducted to provide insight into heat transfer to the piston of a light-duty single-cylinder research engine under Conventional Diesel (CDC), Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI), and Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) combustion regimes. Two fast-response surface thermocouples embedded in the piston top measured transient temperature. A ...
