Development of a school-based digitalised intervention for ADHD using Intervention Mapping

Introduction Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent and impairing neurodevelopmental affecting 2-5% of children. These children are at risk negative health, social educational outcomes; ADHD incurs an estimated £670 million annual cost to education care in the UK. Children with often experience severe difficulties school despite drug treatment: effective psychosocial interventions needed. There mixed evidence for effectiveness existing school-based ADHD, which complex resource-intensive, contradicting preferences teachers short, flexible strategies that suit range ADHD-related classroom-based problems. Objectives To develop prototype intervention ADHD. Methods Intervention Mapping, framework developing theory- evidence-informed explicit consideration implementation context, was used. Logic models were developed behaviour change steps required by each agent system improve outcomes students A comprehensive synthesis conducted targeted key relevance (inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, peer teacher relationships, self-esteem, executive functions organisation skills); findings integrated alongside theory theories underlying aetiology order logic model intervention. Components then line using evidence-based methods, input from people staff other stakeholders every stage development process. Results The process resulted digital platform can be utilised deliver personalised behavioural within primary schools.
