Development of a risk classification protocol for cancer patients in Home-based Palliative Care

ABSTRACT Home-based Palliative Care services specialized in the treatment of cancer patients aim to identify and control physical, psychosocial, spiritual symptoms at home. Some challenges encountered are complexity symptoms, reduced survival with advanced cancer, limitations health care system. To stratify priority for home Care, a risk classification protocol was developed. This article is an experience report on process creating treated service Rio de Janeiro. The initial stage involved meetings team oncology hospital structured searches literature. Afterwards, clinical situations more complex management were listed named as warning signs symptoms: pain, shortness breath, nausea/ vomiting, bleeding, acute mental confusion. An assessment triage developed five categories/colors determine patient care. system has easy applicability requires brief training professional so that it can be used during visits.
