A macroscopic traffic flow model for integrated control of freeway and urban traffic networks
We develop a macroscopic model for mixed urban and freeway traffic networks that is particularly suited for control purposes. In particular, we use an extended version of the METANET traffic flow model to describe the evolution of the traffic flows in the freeway part of the network. For the urban network we propose a new model that is based on the Kashani model. Furthermore, we also describe t...
متن کاملImputation of Ramp Flow Data for Freeway Traffic Simulation
The Tools for Operations Planning (TOPL) employs the Link-Node Cell Transmission model for macroscopic freeway traffic simulations for specifying operational strategies like ramp metering, demand and incident management.Traffic flow and occupancy data from loop detectors is used for calibrating these models and specifying the inputs to the simulation. However, flow data from ramps are often to ...
متن کاملAn Evaluation of Integrated Freeway Traffic Control and Route Diversion using Microscopic Simulation
This paper presents methodology and case studies for a system-wide evaluation of an integrated traffic control and route diversion strategy. Experiments are performed for the Central Artery/Tunnel (CA/T) network in Boston and use a microscopic traffic simulator to test and evaluate the traffic control design. The advantage of this microscopic simulation laboratory is that it simulates the inter...
متن کاملModeling of Freeway Traffic
An integrated modeling of freeway traffic is developed, whose implementation in an uniform computer–aided simulation model facilitate comparative evaluation and systematic coupling of several traffic simulations, traffic controls, traffic measurements and traffic scenarios. The integrated modeling of freeway traffic is a basic mapping of freeway networks, control methods, measurements and diffe...
متن کاملA cellular automaton model for freeway traffic
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stopwaves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.
