Development of a large-scale rainfall simulator for urban hydrology research

ABSTRACT This work presented the development and testing of a large-scale rainfall simulator (LSRS) to be used as research tool on rainfall-runoff associated transport processes in urban areas. The consists pressurized water supply system which supplies set 16 full-cone nozzles. Artificial with different intensities can produced over an area 100 m2 V shape. assembly is housed tailor-made acrylic structure eliminate influence wind natural rainfall. Runoff measured collected at outlet drainage basin, from where it pumped storage tank that enables reuse water. hydrographs pollutographs are examples possible outcomes this facility. LSRS showed able reproduce pollutant under simulated events intensity spatial uniformity similar other experiments described literature.
