Development and Piloting of a Novel Evaluation Tool for Childhood Obesity Prevention Programs

Childhood obesity remains chronic and high in the U.S., driven by factors including poor dietary habits lack of physical activity. Interventions that address multiple causal may be most appropriate strategy to rising childhood rates. The Cooperative Extension Service offers programs across country obesity, but few coordinated or concerted efforts have been made determine overlap, reduce duplication, identify best practices programming. To fill this gap, National Institute Food Agriculture Multistate Project W3005 Workgroup sought develop a novel tool compare with components related prevention. This manuscript details iterative process used Obesity Prevention Program Rubric (COPPER), provides findings from pilot process, reveals broad application potential within nutrition education. newly developed COPPER is multi-functional beneficial program development, implementation, adoption, and/or adaptation new settings. will useful for Extension, public health, other community organizations focused on issues central targeting children, parents, caregivers.
