Development and characterization of effervescent floating tablet of famotidine for treatment of peptic ulcer

Floating drug delivery systems (FDDS) are utilized to target discharge in the stomach or upper parts of intestine. Famotidine has been most extensively used for management peptic ulcer various decades. The current study concerns development and evaluation floating tablets famotidine which, after oral administration, planned extend gastric residence time, enhance bioavailability aim ulcer. A FDDS was expanded using gas-forming agents, like sodium bicarbonate, citric acid hydrocolloids, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) carbopol 934P. prepared were evaluated terms their pre-compression parameters, physical characteristics, buoyancy, buoyancy lag-time, vitro release, swelling index. formulations optimized different viscosity grades HPMC, 934P its concentrations combinations. consequences release studies demonstrated that formulation (F6) could sustain (98%) 24 h remain buoyant hr. Optimized showed no considerable change appearance, content, total time dissolution storage at 40°C/75% RH 3 months. Lastly tablet establish be economical may conquer draw backs associated with during absorption.
