Developing Students' Intercultural Communication Competence by Supplementing Local Culture Contents into English Lessons

The ultimate goal of language learning is to communicate effectively and sensibly in that language, yet during the history teaching learning, a focus on linguistic competence has remained dominant, which undoubtedly resulted learners’ lack sociolinguistic or ―intercultural allowing them be successful speaker language. This study aims increase students' intercultural awareness strengthen their understanding home culture by integrating local contents into English lessons for 9th graders. intervention lasted 10 weeks second semester academic year 2021-2022, 40 students grade at junior high school Thai Nguyen city, Vietnam, were engaged as participants. utilized tests questionnaires fundamental research instruments gather data augmenting order surroundings. SPSS version 26.0 was used process analyze results pre post-tests well post-questionnaires. showed supplementation positive effect participants’ communication competence. It therefore proposed should more regularly integrated develop students’ knowledge culture.
