Developing an intelligent tool for computer-assisted formulaic language learning from YouTube videos

Abstract This paper presents IdiomsTube ( https://www.idiomstube.com ), the first-ever computer-assisted language learning tool for facilitating of English idiomatic expressions from YouTube videos. The web-based is designed to automatically (1) assess speech rate and lexical difficulty level any learner-chosen English-captioned video; (2) generate a range vocabulary-building revision tasks (e.g. fill-in-the-blanks, classic spelling game hangman, pronunciation, flashcards); (3) recommend videos based on learners’ individual progress, class teachers’ instructions, current trends. describes app’s features in conjunction with challenges endemic development applications that content out internet video content. At time writing, app had over 8,000 registered users worldwide.
