Developing a national indicator of functional connectivity

چکیده
Habitat loss is a significant driver of biodiversity loss, causing fragmentation into small, isolated patches suitable land cover. This reduces the permeability landscapes to movement individuals and likelihood metapopulation persistence. Quantifying functional connectivity, ability focal species move between resource patches, therefore essential for conservation management. There substantial evidence supporting technique based on ‘population synchrony’- degree correlation in time-series annual population growth rates different long-term monitoring sites, provide measure connectivity. However, synchronised dynamics are not only driven by but also shared environmental conditions which must be accounted for. Here, we use survey data from over four decades investigate average levels temporal trends synchrony 58 British bird butterfly species. We first show that significantly associated with some seasonal climatic variables. Once spatiotemporal patterns, found butterflies declined time 71% 1985 2000 increased 64% recent years. Synchrony birds showed decline 1999 2005, after there appears being recovery, however most (74%) no overall change synchrony. Our proposed indicator provides ‘species-eye-view’ connectivity using widely available abundance data. Developing such indicators can updated annually, crucial improve effectiveness management strategies under increasing change.

Assessing Functional Neural Connectivity as an Indicator of Cognitive Performance
Studies in recent years have demonstrated that neural organization and structure impact an individual’s ability to perform a given task. Specifically, individuals with greater neural efficiency have been shown to outperform those with less organized functional structure. In this work, we compare the predictive ability of properties of neural connectivity on a working memory task. We provide two...
متن کاملFunctional Connectivity Magnetic Resonance Imaging Reveals Cortical Functional Connectivity in the Developing Brain
Background and Purpose: Resting functional MRI was utilized to depict brain regions exhibiting temporal synchronization, also known as resting brain functional connectivity (rfc). This study aims to determine the temporal and spatial patterns of rfc in healthy pediatric subjects between 2wks and 2yrs old. Methods: Rfc studies were performed on 85 children: 38 neonates (2-4 wks), 26 1yr olds and...
متن کاملFunctional connectivity MR imaging reveals cortical functional connectivity in the developing brain.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Unlike conventional functional MR imaging where external sensory/cognitive paradigms are needed to specifically activate different regions of the brain, resting functional connectivity MR imaging acquires images in the absence of cognitive demands (a resting condition) and detects brain regions, which are highly temporally correlated. Therefore, resting functional MR imag...
متن کاملBrain Functional Connectivity Changes During Learning of Time Discrimination
The human brain is a complex system consist of connected nerve cells that adapts with and learn from the environment by changing its regional activities. Synchrony between these regional activities called functional network changes during the life, and with learning of new skills. Time perception and interval discrimination are among the most necessary skills for the human being to perceive mot...
متن کاملSpontaneous activity and functional connectivity in the developing cerebellorubral system.
The development of the cerebellar system depends in part on the emergence of functional connectivity in its input and output pathways. Characterization of spontaneous activity within these pathways provides insight into their functional status in early development. In the present study we recorded extracellular activity from the interpositus nucleus (IP) and its primary downstream target, the r...
