Determination of the prevalence of hypertension and factors associated with blood pressure among hospitalised elderly in Hospital Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia

Introduction: Increasing trends of hypertension has been recognised as a common disease among the elderly. This study aimed to determine prevalence and factors associated with blood pressure hospitalised Methods: was cross-sectional involving 124 patients in Hospital Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia. Data on socio-demography, medical background, anthropometry, biochemistry lifestyle were collected through face-to-face interviews records. Dietary intake obtained two days food history. Malnutrition risks stress level determined using Mini Nutritional Assessment Short-Form (MNA-SF) Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Results: There 59.7% males 40.3% females mean age 66.81±5.35 years. Majority found have (72.6%). Approximately 38.7% had normal body mass index (BMI). Most them reported insufficient dietary intakes except for trans fats, sodium, caffeine. Nearly 62.1% engaged physical activity, 23.4% smoking, 4.8% taking alcohol. 66.1% 86.3% classified having nutritional status levels.
