چکیده

This research was carried out to determine the intraocular pressure values, optimum anesthesia dose and phenotypic characteristics in Oscar fish (Astronotus ocellatus). A total of 11 adult, male were used study. Optimum dose, pre-and post-anesthesia values measurements (total length, fork standard dorsal fin base head body eye diameter, depth, pectoral pelvic bottom anal length) determined reference specific this species obtained by performing a statistical analysis. When exposed 3 cc/L concentrations, achieved deep state (induction time 1.31 min; recovery 6.42 min). The most balanced without risking vital functions using Clove oil with 2.5 cc/L. Compared other dimensions, length consistent high positive correlations. No statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) seen both eyes between before (5.36-5.86) after (5.59-5.36) anesthesia. It is recommended that ideal concentration clove reduce stress injury damage during handling procedures. Additionally, study can be as for raised aquarium conditions.

The Naturally Occurring Accommodative Response of the Oscar, Astronotus ocellatus, to Visual Stimuli

Observation of the naturally-occurring accommodative response of a highly visual teleost species provides the opportunity to study its stimulus-response accuracy. A video recording system, linked to a computer digitizing program, was used to measure accommodative changes in lens position in the oscar, Astronotus ocellatus, in response to known food stimuli. The largest lens deviations occurred ...

Diagnostic imaging of a renal adenoma in a Red Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus Cuvier, 1829).

This case report describes the radiographic, ultrasonographic and computed tomographic (CT) examination of an abdominal swelling in a Red Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus Cuvier, 1829). While radiography only demonstrated caudoventral compression of the swimbladder, ultrasonography found a huge tumor-like parenchyma in the caudal abdomen. CT studies detected a possible connection between the tumor a...

occurrence of a motile aeromonas septicaemia in the imported ornamental fish, oscar (astronotus ocellatus): isolation, characterization and pathogenicity

a bacterial septicaemia occurred in 3-female oscars (astronotus ocellatus) of about 2-year old held in 300l freshwater aquaria in south tehran. the external signs of infected fish consisted of lethargy, anaemia, distension (clinical dropsy), exophthalmia and cataract. internally there was a large amount of red-ascitic fluid accumulated in the abdominal cavity with haemorrhages/ hyperaemia of in...

Selectivity in regeneration of the oculomotor nerve in the cichlid fish, Astronotus ocellatus.

IT has long been considered a general rule for nerve regeneration that the reinnervation of skeletal muscle is nonselective. Regenerating nerve fibers are supposed to reconnect with one skeletal muscle as readily as another according to studies covering a wide range of vertebrates (Weiss, 1937; Weiss & Taylor, 1944; Weiss & Hoag, 1946; Bernstein & Guth, 1961; Guth, 1961, 1962, 1963). Similarly,...

Rapid regulation of Na+ fluxes and ammonia excretion in response to acute environmental hypoxia in the Amazonian oscar, Astronotus ocellatus.

The Amazonian oscar is extremely resistant to hypoxia, and tolerance scales with size. Overall, ionoregulatory responses of small ( approximately 15 g) and large oscars ( approximately 200 g) to hypoxia were qualitatively similar, but the latter were more effective. Large oscars exhibited a rapid reduction in unidirectional Na(+) uptake rate at the gills during acute hypoxia (Po(2) approximatel...
