Deterioration of Mechanical Properties of Axial Compression Concrete Columns with Corroded Stirrups Coupling on Load and Chloride

To research the deterioration of mechanical properties stirrup-corroded concrete columns under effect load and chloride, accelerated corrosion carrying capacity tests were carried out on subjected to long-term axial loading by means dry wet cycles with extra electric currents. The test results showed that corrosion-induced cracks mainly developed along direction longitudinal reinforcing steel bars (cracks caused corrosion) there almost no corroded stirrups. length maximum width increased stirrup rate, but average did not change significantly. After column reached ultimate load, cover spalled off in pieces cracks, core was crushed, produced obvious brittle failure. With increase rate stirrups, stiffness bearing decreased. Considering factors such as damage section corrosion, decrease lateral restraint bars, buckling prediction model short compression due established. calculated values good agreement measured values, indicating has applicability.
