Detecting the gravitational wave memory effect with TianQin

چکیده
The gravitational wave memory effect is a prediction of general relativity. presence in signals not only provides the chance to test an important aspect relativity, but also represents potentially non-negligible contribution waveform for certain events. In this paper, we study prospect detecting directly with planned space-based detector -- TianQin. We find that during its 5 years operation, could be detected by TianQin, about $0.5\sim2.0$ may contain displacement signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) greater than 3. This suggests TianQin detect low fully negligible. contrast, spin which parameter space, expected significant modeling.

The gravitational-wave memory effect
The nonlinear memory effect is a slowly growing, non-oscillatory contribution to the gravitational-wave amplitude. It originates from gravitational waves that are sourced by the previously emitted waves. In an ideal gravitationalwave interferometer a gravitational wave with memory causes a permanent displacement of the test masses that persists after the wave has passed. Surprisingly, the nonli...
متن کاملDetecting Gravitational-Wave Memory with LIGO: Implications of GW150914.
It may soon be possible for Advanced LIGO to detect hundreds of binary black hole mergers per year. We show how the accumulation of many such measurements will allow for the detection of gravitational-wave memory: a permanent displacement of spacetime that comes from strong-field, general relativistic effects. We estimate that Advanced LIGO operating at design sensitivity may be able to make a ...
متن کاملThe gravitational-wave memory from eccentric binaries
The nonlinear gravitational-wave memory causes a time-varying but nonoscillatory correction to the gravitational-wave polarizations. It arises from gravitational-waves that are sourced by gravitationalwaves. Previous considerations of the nonlinear memory effect have focused on quasicircular binaries. Here I consider the nonlinear memory from Newtonian orbits with arbitrary eccentricity. Expres...
متن کاملDetecting an anisotropic gravitational wave background with LISA∗
We address the problem of detecting a stochastic background originated by an anisotropic population of sources, like the galactic binaries, by exploiting the amplitude modulation of the signal as the antenna changes its orientation with respect to fixed stars. This modulation, if observed, could help in discriminating the background generated by galactic binaries from the isotropic gravitationa...
متن کاملDetecting a gravitational-wave background with next-generation space interferometers
Future missions of gravitational-wave astronomy will be operated by space-based interferometers, covering very wide range of frequency. Search for stochastic gravitational-wave backgrounds (GWBs) is one of the main targets for such missions, and we here discuss the prospects for direct measurement of isotropic and anisotropic components of (primordial) GWBs around the frequency 0.1 − 10 Hz. Aft...
