Detecting Changes in Global Extremes Under the GLENS‐SAI Climate Intervention Strategy

چکیده

As anthropogenic activities continue to drive increases in extreme events, the fundamental solution of reducing greenhouse gas emissions remains elusive. Thus, there is growing interest stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) offset some most dangerous consequences climate change. Although global SAI deployment would likely be easy detect by metrics, detectability on events might more difficult. We examine this question model simulations SAI; specifically, Stratospheric Aerosol Geoengineering Large Ensemble (GLENS-SAI) scenario. train a logistic regression predict whether map extremes came from with or without SAI. The timing accurate predictions quantification time required impacts. find that regional changes temperature and precipitation under GLENS are robustly detected within 1 15 years initial injection, respectively.

Scenario dependence of future changes in climate extremes under 1.5 °C and 2 °C global warming

The 2015 Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming below 2 °C and pursue efforts to even limit it to 1.5 °C relative to pre-industrial levels. Decision makers need reliable information on the impacts caused by these warming levels for climate mitigation and adaptation measures. We explore the changes in climate extremes, which are closely tied to economic losses and casualties, under 1.5 °C ...

Precipitation Extremes Under Climate Change

The response of precipitation extremes to climate change is considered using results from theory, modeling, and observations, with a focus on the physical factors that control the response. Observations and simulations with climate models show that precipitation extremes intensify in response to a warming climate. However, the sensitivity of precipitation extremes to warming remains uncertain w...

Global warming and changes in risk of concurrent climate extremes: Insights from the 2014 California drought

Global warming and the associated rise in extreme temperatures substantially increase the chance of concurrent droughts and heat waves. The 2014 California drought is an archetype of an event characterized by not only low precipitation but also extreme high temperatures. From the raging wildfires, to record low storage levels and snowpack conditions, the impacts of this event can be felt throug...

Detecting the Impact of Climate Change Droughts on Changes in Groundwater Resources. Case Study: Birjand County

Increasing atmospheric anomalies have altered some of the extreme events such as global warming droughts, many climatic components such as precipitation, evapotranspiration, temporal and spatial distribution of precipitation, followed by dominoes of changes in freshwater resources available to communities. Human changes such as changes in the hydrological regime of rivers, changes in the qualit...

Global changes in seasonal means and extremes of precipitation from daily climate model data

[1] We investigate simulated changes of seasonal precipitation maxima and means in a future, warmer climate. We use data from the ESSENCE project, in which a 17-member ensemble of climate change simulations in response to the SRES A1b scenario has been carried out using the ECHAM5/MPI-OM climate model. The large size of the data set gives the opportunity to detect the changes of climate extreme...
