Destratification of a Eutrophic Reservoir in South Korea Using a Novel Convectional Water Circulation System (CWCS)

Replication of natural mixing through artificial water circulation techniques, such as convectional systems (CWCS), can break thermal stratification in stagnant and suppress algal blooms. Here, the field performance a novel CWCS was evaluated eutrophic reservoir (Shingal reservoir, South Korea) for three seasons between September 2016 2018. The deployed corner stagnated reservoir. changes temperature dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations at different depths were examined deployment site two control sites within area during 2017 seasons. In 2018, replicating assessed by monitoring unit comparison with flow. differences DO epilimnion hypolimnion significantly smaller than sites, demonstrating effectiveness vertical horizontal well transfer. findings study revealed that effectively induced natural-like without disturbing hypolimnion.
