Design of Game-Based Virtual Forests for Psychological Stress Therapy

Numerous studies have reported the beneficial effects of natural environments on human health and wellbeing. Virtual games may offer a practical approach to experience illusion being in setting for those with limited access nature. This study presents an evaluation nature-based virtual environment application modulate participant’s affective psychological state. We developed game-based therapy using Unity 3D game engine by implementing forest activities designing like real-life forest. Eight healthy adults participated this were observed remotely. The participants’ mood states before after evaluated Profile Mood States (POMS). In addition, satisfaction usability assessed Game-User Experience Satisfaction Scale System Usability Scale, respectively. results revealed that participants experienced significantly improved moods (p < 0.05) decreased stress levels playing game. Moreover, indicated multiple positive correlations between immersion subscales, revealing audio visual aesthetics offered users feel more immersed. suggests promote mental health.
