Design, manufacture and crushing behaviors of buckling-inspired auxetic meta-lattice structures

Introducing buckling pattern into straight-walled lattice structure, anovel inspired meta-structure (BILM) was designed and fabricated using polylactic acid (PLA) by three-dimensional (3D) printing technology. The square structure with positive Poisson’s ratio (PPR) is transformed negative (NPR) induction. Curved struts decrease the maximum strain, prohibit strut fracture, increase contact induce ductile bending deformation. meta-topology changes crushing from brittle layer-by-layer hybrid to stable plastic when increasing central angle 0° 120°. Buckling meta-lattice structures can obviously improve energy absorption (EA) performance through reducing initial peak force (IPF) while EA, specific (SEA) efficiency (CFE). Ductile endows BILM excellent EA.
