Design in Gunther Kress’s social semiotics

چکیده
Gunther Kress’s multimodal and social semiotic theory of communication has moved beyond the realm linguistics, which originally framed his work, reached out to inform other fields, such as those education, museum studies, well humanities sciences more broadly. This article brings together our insights in relation a concept from theory, that design. Drawing research, we reflect on conceptualisation design semiotics discuss how this idea inspired us advance research across domains formal learning schools, informal museums, everyday interaction. We consider contribution is challenge boundaries concepts ‘competence’, ‘interpretation’ ‘critique’, associated respectively with dominant discourses practices worlds museums practice. look at as: (1) learning; (2) transformation resources; (3) an engaged engaging argue interpretative resource it enables move limitations posed by institutions academia.
