Design and fabrication of multilayer dichroic beam splitter

Beam splitters are primarily used for applications like avionic displays, optical storage, fluorescence applications, interferometry, semiconductor instrumentation where some of the information needs to be reflected as well transmitted. They operate on principle light being and transmitted by various interfaces it is split percentage overall intensity or wavelength. In this study, design fabrication a dichroic beam splitter filtering red green from white source has been presented. Here, symmetric dielectric multilayer stack with 15 alternating layers alumina silica deposited BK-7 glass using e-beam evaporation technique. High low refractive indices 1.63 1.46 respectively quarter-wave thicknesses layers. The designed 45 ̊ angle incidence FilmstarTM software. Transmission spectrum obtained UV-Vis-NIR double spectrophotometer shows reflectance ~54% at 660 nm (red wavelength region) transmittance ~88% 550 (green region). coated sample further subjected adhesion hardness test according MIL standard no peel off scratch observed indicating excellent durability coating. modelled measured results closely agree one another over visible spectral regions.
