Deriving Large Coronal Magnetic Loop Parameters Using LOFAR J Burst Observations

چکیده

Abstract Large coronal loops around one solar radius in altitude are an important connection between the wind and low corona. However, their plasma properties ill-defined, as standard X-ray UV techniques not suited to these low-density environments. Diagnostics from type J radio bursts at frequencies above 10 MHz ideally understand loops. Despite this, J-bursts less frequently studied than III cousins, part because curvature of loop makes them unsuited for using density models. We used LOw-Frequency-ARray (LOFAR) Parker Solar Probe (PSP) dynamic spectrum identify 27 during a noise storm observed on April 2019. found that exciter velocities were similar, implying common acceleration region injects electrons along open closed magnetic structures. describe novel technique estimate model J-burst spectra, finding typical apex altitudes 1.3 radius. At this altitude, average scale heights 0.36 radius, temperature was 1 MK, pressure $0.7~\text{mdyn}\,\text{cm}^{-2}$ 0.7 mdyn cm − 2 , minimum field strength 0.13 G. discuss how parameters compare with much smaller

Coronal Loop Models and Those Annoying Observations (!)

It was once thought that all coronal loops are in static equilibrium, but observational and modeling developments over the past decade have shown that this is clearly not the case. It is now established that warm (∼ 1 MK) loops observed in the EUV are explainable as bundles of unresolved strands that are heated impulsively by storms of nanoflares. A raging debate concerning the multi-thermal ve...

Determination of the coronal magnetic field by coronal loop oscillations

We develop a new method for the determination of the absolute value of the magnetic field strength in coronal closed magnetic structures, based on the analysis of flare-generated oscillations of coronal loops. Interpretation of the oscillations observed in terms of global standing kink waves allows to connect the period of the oscillations and the loops length with the magnetic field strength i...

On the Selection of High-z Quasars Using LOFAR Observations

We present a method to identify candidate quasars which combines optical/infrared color selection with radio detections from the Low Frequency ARray (LOFAR) at 150 MHz. We apply this method in a region of 9 square degrees located in the Boötes field, with a wealth of multi-wavelength data. Our LOFAR imaging in the central region reaches a rms noise of ∼ 50μJy with a resolution of 5. This is so ...

Radio Observations of Gyroresonance Emission from Coronal Magnetic Fields

We review the basic characteristics of thermal gyroresonance (also known as cyclotron) emission from solar active regions, and show how radio observations combined with our understanding of the basic mechanism can reveal much of the magnetic and thermal structure of the corona over active regions.
