چکیده
This study was motivated by the desire to develop accurate simulation models for deployment dynamics of future, ultralight deployable structures consisting multiple thin shells packaged elastically, through a combination folding and coiling. The specific problem studied is packaging unconstrained rectangular space frame formed two thin-shell longerons connected transverse rods, called strip. included experiments on high-quality test articles, using suspension system with low inertia friction. elastic folds in strips were tracked high-speed three-dimensional digital image correlation both air near-vacuum. also developed high-fidelity finite element model that captures elastic, localized deformation occurs during initial folding, self-contact between different parts structure as develops, strain energy stored process. accurately captured self-latching strips, well effects deployment.

Simulation of Deployment Dynamics of In atable Structures
Analytical simulation of the in ation process of in atable structures is key to assessing their robust deployment in a space environment. Although the problem seems to be intractable, a simpli ed nite volume in ation model is developed, which allows discretized description of the gas ow, pressure variation, and resulting nonlinear large deformation throughout domains of the in atable s...

متن کاملSimulation of Quasi-Static Folding and Deployment of Ultra-Thin Composite Structures
This paper presents a detailed study of the folding and deployment of a slotted tube hinge made from a two-ply laminate of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic. A physical model of a particular version of this hinge has been used to carry out quasi-static deployment tests and this process has been fully captured through a finite element simulation. The first stage in this simulation was to generate ...
