Demographic and Social Factors Associated with HIV Discordance Among HIVInfected Couples in Kaduna State Nigeria

Background: Discordance has always been a bane in the efforts to stop spread of HIV within population as it creates gap through which re-infection occurs. Knowing demographics associated with discordance will help fight against AIDS transmission. Objectives: The study was conducted assess demographic and social factors among HIV- infected couples. Methods: A total 158 couples 317 individuals were recruited for survey using stratified sampling technique. detailed closed-ended questionnaire administered them collect their information. blood test also carried out confirm status. Results: majority 161(50.8%) respondents had secondary education while least 29(9.1%) tertiary education. Most 135(42.6%) knew status by voluntary testing, most 255(71%) Christians only 92(29%) Muslims. More women 105(66.04%) positive, prevalence Kaduna State 0.2%. Social such education, employment, unprotected sex, extramarital affairs, body marks/tattoo, surgery/operation, tribal marks, transfusion did not affect discordance, p-value ˃ 0.05. Other remarriage, use antiretroviral therapy (ART), pre-marital male/female circumcision, polygamy found ˂ Conclusions: There is need draw attention these facts succeed global war AIDS.
