Delaying the Occurrence of Bar Buckling in RC Columns Confined with SRG Jacketing

This paper investigates experimentally the structural performance of substandard reinforced concrete (RC) short columns confined with steel-reinforced grout (SRG) jackets under monotonically increasing uniaxial compression. The study comprised 24 square cross section RC having alternative arrangements shear reinforcement (ratio stirrup spacing to longitudinal bar diameter ranging from 4.2 12.5). were retrofitted externally applied SRG jacketing differing by density fabric (4 cords/in and 12 cords/in) number layers (1 2). test results showed that retrofitting significantly changed behaviour specimens compared unconfined counterparts. For at risk premature failure due insufficient support compression bars provided sparse stirrups, delayed buckling, enabling members achieve greater strength deformation capacity. well-detailed helped establish maximum effectiveness confinement.
