Delayed cerebrospinal fluid ascites following ventriculoperitoneal shunt

چکیده
Background: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) ascites is an abnormal accumulation of CSF within the peritoneal cavity caused by peritoneum's inability to absorb CSF, following a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt surgery. Excessive production (e.g, choroid plexus papilloma and villous hypertrophy), high protein secondary chronic infection (e.g. tuberculosis), brain tumours optic gliomas craniopharyngiomas) have all been suggested as contributing factors formation ascites. Peritoneal inflammation result several revisions or some non-specific inflammatory reaction material has also explored.
Case Presentation: A 3-year-old girl with lumbar myelomeningocele delayed VP reported. Therapeutic paracentesis was employed relieve abdominal distension, although recurring common. The removed instead Ventriculo-atrial shunt, she underwent Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV). gradually disappeared after ETV over two-week period.
Conclusions: Abdominal conversion Ventriculoperitoneal are commonly used treat ascites, however Ventriculostomy, where feasible, another alternative treatment that can be performed this condition.

متن کاملDelayed Intracerebral Hemorrhage Secondary to Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt
The ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt is a routine procedure for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion, and is associated with many complications. A delayed hemorrhage after the VP shunt surgery, however, is quite rare. In this study, we report a case involving late-onset hemorrhage. The 67-year-old male patient with a history of head trauma and brain surgery underwent a VP shunt placement for hydr...
متن کاملDelayed diagnosis of shunt overdrainage following functional hemispherotomy and ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement in a hemimegalencephaly patient
Shunt overdrainage represents a nebulous condition of variable clinical and imaging presentations, where the diagnosis is primarily clinical. The condition presents a diagnostic challenge particularly in patients with cognitive impairment and developmental delays. Here we present a 3-year-old boy with drug-resistant focal onset seizures due to hemimegalencephaly who previously underwent functio...

Since the invention of the first implantable shunt valve by Nulsen and Spitz (12) almost 50 years ago, there has been a remarkable number of ingenious modifications and new designs of shunt equipment to treat pediatric hydrocephalus. These developments were in response to the immediately evident high shunt failure rate. These designs included antisiphon devices (15), on-off devices, gravity-act...
