Degradation of Biodegradable Microplastics under Artificially Controlled Aging Conditions with UV Radiation

Due to the extensive use and improper recycling of traditional plastics, more policies have been issued manage restrict plastics. Therefore, Biodegradable Plastics (BPs), a substitute are widely used in daily life. However, it cannot reach expected degradation effect natural environment, BPs may produce micro-plastics faster than plastics called Microplastics (BMPs). In order explore BMPs, we designed experiment BMPs under Ultraviolet (UV) radiation for 64 days. The results showed that surface gradually became rough with aging time. And both slight increase O/C ratio CI (carbonyl index) value them indicated they were oxidized UV radiation. addition, crystal behaviors thermal stability no obvious changes before after aging. Our findings demonstrated less sensitive as compared those conventional giving evidence is necessary regulation constraints on their upstream production subsequent disposal achieve environmental friendly purpose.
