چکیده
Forests provide many resources, ecosystem services and absorb carbon dioxide, which helps in climate regulation. In spite of the enormous benefits forests, issue deforestation is still ongoing. There has been a continuous decline forests globally forest area Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary (BFMS) Ghana facing similar threat. The aim study to determine different cover types changes BFMS. Satellite images for years 1992, 1998, 2004, 2010, 2016 2018 were downloaded. Unsupervised supervised classification performed remote sensing software was used detect cover. classified into six classes; closed forest, open savannah woodland, savannah, farmlands built-up area. Available data suggests that between 1992 2018, decreased by 242.19ha, increased 122.85 ha, woodland 7.47ha, 6.48 farmland 39.39ha 65.7ha. all significant. Decreasing BFMS threat sustainable ecotourism since serves as habitat food source monkeys. This research guide other researches aiming at determining forest-savannah transition zones. addition, results have produced an inventory will help resource managers sustainably manage forest.

The effect of forest fragment characteristics on abundance of Colobus vellerosus in the forest-savanna transition zone of Ghana.
We explore the factors influencing the abundance of Colobus vellerosus in 11 forest fragments [Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary and 9 surrounding forest fragments (range: 3.2-190 ha)] in the forest-savanna transition zone of Ghana. We used a 'complete' count for the colobus census in the fragments. We determined the fragment sizes using geographic information system methods and assessed forest fr...
متن کاملThe Population Status of the Ursine Colobus (colobus Vellerosus) at Boabeng-fiema, Ghana
Introduction The population of Ursine colobus (Colobus vellerosus) is thought to be declining throughout most of its range in West Africa. In eastern Côte d'Ivoire and southwestern Ghana, sightings of C. vellerosus in various reserves and National Parks is reported as rare or few today, in contrast to 'common' In Togo, there have been no published sightings for over 20 years [Asibey, 1978]. In ...
متن کاملActivity budget and ranging patterns of Colobus vellerosus in forest fragments in central Ghana.
The forest fragments surrounding the 192-ha Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary (BFMS) in central Ghana contain small populations of Colobus vellerosus. Data were collected on activity budget, ranging patterns and habitat use of 3 groups living in these small fragments in August-November 2003, and compared to 3 BFMS groups. Fragment groups spent less time moving and more time resting than BFMS group...

a r t i c l e i n f o The ecological, economic and socio-cultural roles of forests are under threat in Ghana due to the high rate of deforestation. Efforts are being made to combat this problem through rehabilitation measures. However, the costs of deforestation and restoration benefits are not adequately estimated. This paper fills in the gap in knowledge by providing an empirical estimation o...
متن کاملOccurrences of forest butterflies in the farm bush savannah outside a forest reserve in Ghana, West Africa
The willingness of a species to leave a forest fragment is a prerequisite for subsequent dispersal across the intervening non-forested landscape. Species with stringent fidelity to the forest patch will be isolated from populations in other fragments and predisposed to factors that promote extinction of local populations. Here, we document which fruit-feeding, forest-dwelling butterflies occur ...
