Deep brain stimulation creates informational lesion through membrane depolarization

چکیده

Abstract Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a promising neuromodulation therapy, but the neurophysiological mechanisms of DBS remain unclear. We performed high-speed membrane voltage fluorescence imaging individual hippocampal CA1 neurons during delivered at 40Hz or 140Hz, free electrical interference, in awake mice. discovered that reliably depolarizes somatic potentials without suppressing spike rate, especially 140Hz. Further, paced and timing frequency, reduced timed spiking output response to network theta-rhythmic (3-12Hz) activity patterns. To further determine whether directly impacts cellular processing inputs, we optogenetically evoked depolarization soma. found DBS-evoked correlated with DBS-mediated suppression neuronal responses optogenetic inputs. These results demonstrate produces powerful interferes neuron’s ability process creating informational lesion. Research Category Technology Methods Basic Research: 1. Deep Brain Stimulation Imposes Complex Informational Lesions

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy has become an essential tool for treating a range of brain disorders. In the resting state, DBS is known to regularize spike activity in and downstream of the stimulated brain target, which in turn has been hypothesized to create informational lesions. Here, we specifically test this hypothesis using repetitive joint articulations in two non-human Primates w...
