Dedifferentiated primary melanoma with rhabdoid features: a case report and literature review

Rhabdoid melanoma is an aggressive, rare variant of melanoma. Herein, we describe a case rhabdoid and review the clinicopathological features this neoplasm. A 59-year-old Caucasian female presented with large cavitary wound located on her right posteromedial upper torso. Light microscopy lesion revealed patternless sheeting neoplastic cells cytoplasm containing eosinophilic inclusions peripherally round-to-oval nuclei. Tumor stained positive for S100, Sox10, myoD1, desmin, vimentin. CT imaging abdomen, chest, pelvis demonstrated bilateral cannonball lung tumors, axillary mediastinal lymphadenopathy, soft tissue mass involving left back. These findings were consistent diagnosis metastatic melanoma, which ultimately resulted in patient’s demise. Increased awareness entity crucial to practicing physician order enhance recognition provide best possible healthcare affected individuals.
