Decreased carO gene expression and OXA-type carbapenemases among extensively drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strains isolated from burn patients in Tehran, Iran

Abstract A major challenge in the treatment of infections has been rise extensively drug resistance (XDR) and multidrug (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii . The goals this study were to determine pattern antimicrobial susceptibility, bla OXA carO genes among burn-isolated A. strains. In study, 100 strains isolated from burn patients their susceptibilities different antibiotics determined using disc diffusion testing broth microdilution. Presence gene OXA-type carbapenemase was tested by PCR sequencing. SDS-PAGE done survey CarO porin expression level evaluated Real-Time PCR. high rate meropenem (98%), imipenem (98%) doripenem detected. All susceptible colistin. results indicated that 84.9% XDR 97.9% MDR. addition, all bore OXA-51 like OXA-23 genes. Nonetheless, OXA-58 OXA-24 harbored 0 percent 76 strains, respectively. relative levels ranged 0.06 35.01 fold lower than carbapenem-susceptible ATCC19606 SDS – PAGE analysis outer membrane protein showed isolates produced CarO. current revealed prevalence changes carbapenem resistant A.baumannii
