چکیده

Abstract We propose answer-set programs that specify and compute counterfactual interventions on entities are input a classification model. In relation to the outcome of model, resulting serve as basis for definition computation causality-based explanation scores feature values in entity under classification, namely responsibility . The approach can be applied with black-box models, also models specified logic programs, such rule-based classifiers. main focus this study is specification best entities, is, those lead maximum scores. From them one read off explanations original entity. extend bring into picture semantic or domain knowledge. show how could extended by means probabilistic methods, underlying probability distributions modified through use constraints. Several examples written syntax DLV ASP-solver, run it, shown.

Explanations of Counterfactual Inferences

When engaging in counterfactual thought, people must imagine changes to the actual state of the world. In this study, we investigated how people reason about counterfactual scenarios by asking participants to make counterfactual inferences about a series of causal devices (i.e., answer questions such as If component X had not operated [had failed], would components Y, Z, and W have operated?) a...

Causal Explanations in Counterfactual Reasoning

This paper explores the role of causal explanations in evaluating counterfactual conditionals. In reasoning about what would have been the case if A had been true, the localist injunction to hold constant all the variables that causally influence whether A is true or not, is sometimes unreasonably constraining. We hypothesize that speakers may resolve this tension by including in their delibera...

using counterfactual analysis for providing historical explanations in social sciences

counterfactual analysis is concerned with explaining events that have not happened. counterfactuals are mental experiments through which one can reconstruct hypothetical versions of the history in one’s mind; these versions are relatively different from the real history, but provide one with the opportunity to test historical hypotheses against the available evidence. historicist researchers in...

Declarative Reasoning Approaches for Agent Coordination

Reasoning about Action and Change (RAC) and Answer Set Programming (ASP) are two well-known fields in AI for logic-based reasoning. Each paradigm bears unique features and a possible integration can lead to more effective ways to address hard AI problems. In this paper, we report on implementations that embed RAC formalisms and concepts in ASP and present the experimental results obtained, buil...
