Deciphering Competitive Routes for Nickel‐Based Nanoparticle Electrodeposition by an Operando Optical Monitoring

چکیده

Electrodeposition of earth-abundant iron group metals such as nickel is difficult to characterize by simple electrochemical analyses since the reduction their metal salts often competes with inhibiting reactions. This makes mechanistic interpretation sometimes contradictory, preventing unambiguous predictions about nature and structure electrodeposited material. Herein, complexity Ni nanoparticles (NPs) electrodeposition on indium tin oxide (ITO) unraveled operando at a single entity NP level optical microscopy correlated ex situ SEM imaging. Our correlative approach allows differentiating dynamics formation two different populations, metallic Ni(OH)2 <25 nm limit detection, being ruled competition between Ni2+ water reduction. At this results in self-terminated growth, an information which most hidden ensemble averaged measurements.

Routes to Nanoparticle-Polymer Superlattices

Nanoparticles can self-assemble into highly ordered twoand three-dimensional superlattices. For many practical applications these assemblies need to be integrated into polymeric matrices to provide stability and function. By appropriate co-assembly of nanoparticles and polymers it has become possible to tailor the nanoparticle superlattice structure via the length and stiffness of the polymer c...

Tuning Electrodeposition Parameters for Tailored Nanoparticle Size, Shape, and Morphology: An In Situ ec-STEM Investigation

Advances in vacuum-tight in situ liquid cell TEM systems have attracted significant attention because of the ability to directly interpret chemical and electrochemical reactions within their native liquid environments [1]. Conducting quantitative in situ electrochemistry experiments within the S/TEM is feasible using the relatively new platform of in situ electrochemical S/TEM (ec-S/TEM). In th...

An Optical Impedance Investigation of a Gold Electrodeposition System

In this paper in situ visible electroreflectance measurements have been carried out in order to extract new electrochemical information from the dependence of R/R on the frequency of potential modulation. The behaviour of some typical components of a Au electrodeposition bath has been investigated: a metal salt (KAu(CN)2), a supporting electrolyte (NaClO4), a metal cation complexing agent (KCN)...

Optical Forces Induced by Metal Nanoparticle Clusters

The strong field localization generated between closely placed metal particles excited by electromagnetic radiation induces intense forces on small polarizable objects. In this study we investigate the optical forces that can be generated in the vicinity of metal nanoparticle clusters using fully electrodynamic numerical simulations. The influence of the cluster configuration as well as of the ...

Monitoring Early-Stage Nanoparticle Assembly in Microdroplets by Optical Spectroscopy and SERS.

Microfluidic microdroplets have increasingly found application in biomolecular sensing as well as nanomaterials growth. More recently the synthesis of plasmonic nanostructures in microdroplets has led to surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS)-based sensing applications. However, the study of nanoassembly in microdroplets has previously been hindered by the lack of on-chip characterization t...
