Homograft valve replacement for aortic valve disease.

Our experience with homograft replacement of the aortic valve now includes 175 patients operated on over a period of almost three years, and we have come to aceept this method as the best surgical treatment for aortic incompetence and for calcific aortic stenosis. As others continue to use a ball valve prosthesis, it is important to analyse the results with the homograft valve, paying particula...

Cryopreserved aortic homograft for aortic valve replacement: immediate results.

OBJECTIVE To assess immediate clinical and echocardiographic results of the use of cryopreserved aortic homografts for aortic valve replacement. METHODS Eighteen patients with aortic valve disease underwent aortic valve replacement, receiving a cryopreserved aortic homograft, 15 were male, 10 had aortic regurgitation, and 8 had aortic stenosis. Age ranged from 18 to 65 years (mean, 44.5 +/- 1...

Decellularized aortic homografts for aortic valve and aorta ascendens replacement†

OBJECTIVES The choice of valve prosthesis for aortic valve replacement (AVR) in young patients is challenging. Decellularized pulmonary homografts (DPHs) have shown excellent results in pulmonary position. Here, we report our early clinical results using decellularized aortic valve homografts (DAHs) for AVR in children and mainly young adults. METHODS This prospective observational study incl...

Transplantation of human homograft aortic valve.

We report the correction of aortic regurgitation by the insertion of a homograft aortic valve. The valve had been stored in buffered formaldehyde for six months, and this technique of preservation is the purpose of this communication. Formaldehyde in acetate buffer for the preservation of valve tissue was suggested to us by Lord Brock (1962), and this report of its use is believed to be the fir...
