Data envelope fitting with constrained polynomial splines
Estimation of support frontiers and boundaries often involves monotone and/or concave edge data smoothing. This estimation problem arises in various unrelated contexts, such as optimal cost and production assessments in econometrics and master curve prediction in the reliability programs of nuclear reactors. Very few constrained estimators of the support boundary of a bivariate distribution hav...
متن کاملMultivariate Splines for Data Fitting and Approximation
Methods for scattered data fitting using multivariate splines will be surveyed in this paper. Existence, uniqueness, and computational algorithms for these methods, as well as their approximation properties will be discussed. Some applications of multivariate splines for data fitting will be briefly explained. Some new research initiatives of scattered data fitting will be outlined. §
متن کاملSpherical Splines for Data Interpolation and Fitting
We study minimal energy interpolation, discrete and penalized least squares approximation problems on the unit sphere using nonhomogeneous spherical splines. Several numerical experiments are conducted to compare approximating properties of homogeneous and nonhomogeneous splines. Our numerical experiments show that nonhomogeneous splines have certain advantages over homogeneous splines.
متن کاملCurve Fitting With Clothoidal Splines
Clothoids, i.e. curves Z(s) in RI whoem curvatures xes) are linear fitting functions of arclength ., have been nued for some time for curve fitting purposes in engineering applications. The first part of the paper deals with some basic interpolation problems for lothoids and studies the existence and uniqueness of their solutions. The second part discusses curve fitting problems for clothoidal ...
متن کاملLocal RBF Approximation for Scattered Data Fitting with Bivariate Splines
In this paper we continue our earlier research [4] aimed at developing efficient methods of local approximation suitable for the first stage of a spline based two-stage scattered data fitting algorithm. As an improvement to the pure polynomial local approximation method used in [5], a hybrid polynomial/radial basis scheme was considered in [4], where the local knot locations for the RBF terms w...
