Aeroelastic structures, from insect wings to wind turbine blades, experience transient unsteady aerodynamic loads that are coupled their motion. Effective real-time control of flexible structures relies on accurate and efficient predictions both the aeroelastic forces airfoil deformation. For rigid wings, classical models have recently been reformulated in state space for extended include viscous effects. Here, we further extend this modeling framework deformation a wing addition quasi-steady, added mass, forces. We develop low-order linear based data direct numerical simulations flow past at low Reynolds number. demonstrate effectiveness these track aggressive maneuvers with model predictive while constraining maximum This system identification approach provides an interpretable, accurate, low-dimensional representation can aid controller design applications where transients play important role.
