Dangerous liaisons: human genetic adaptation to infectious agents

چکیده
The study of the demographic and adaptive history Homo sapiens has entered its golden age with advent genome-wide approaches. analyses genome diversity across different human populations have allowed us to better understand ways in which our species rapidly dispersed around world, how ancestors admixed archaic, now-extinct hominins, effects natural selection on genome. This work has, turn, made it possible increase understanding genetic mechanisms by humans adapted wide range environments they encountered. These studies, combined functional genomics approaches, helped identify genes biological functions key importance for host survival against pathogens involved phenotypic variability species, including risk develop infectious, autoimmune inflammatory diseases.

Dangerous liaisons
Cells during mitosis and meiosis undergo chromosome condensation through a process that depends on evolutionary conserved large protein complexes known as condensins. There are two condensing complexes, condensin i and ii, each of which is composed of five subunits. Condensin i and ii play essential, yet distinct, roles in chromosome condensation and segregation during mitosis. Recent findings ...
متن کاملSmoking and asthma: dangerous liaisons.
Cigarette smoking and asthma interact to induce important adverse effects on clinical, prognostic and therapeutic outcomes. This review examines recent evidence on the harmful effects of smoking in asthma, possible underlying inflammatory mechanisms for this altered response, management options for these patients and potential future therapeutic directions. Active smokers, particularly females,...

The World Tuberculosis Day was celebrated in the past day of March 24. Despite sustained reduction in its incidence, tuberculosis (TB) still affects millions of patients, especially in certain group risks. Although its etiologic agent, most frequent risk factors, means to diagnosis, treatment and prevention are known, it persists as a relevant public health threat. The main determinants for the...
